Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan, AVSM & Bar, VSM, IN (Retd), Director General, National Maritime Foundation (NMF), delivered an insightful address at the National Defence College, on 13 July 2026, on the topic “Oceans and the Laws of the Sea”.
During his talk, Vice Admiral Chauhan examined the strategic and legal significance of the oceans, with particular emphasis on maritime disputes, the evolving application of the law of the sea, and the importance of international legal frameworks in managing maritime spaces.
He also highlighted key imperatives related to environmental protection and offshore resource management, underscoring their relevance to maritime governance, national security, and sustainable development.
The interaction provided participants with a comprehensive perspective on the relationship between maritime law, ocean governance, maritime security, and India’s wider strategic interests.
