Maersk, the world’s second-largest shipping line by container capacity, committed to a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per transported container by 2030. A commitment of such a large proportion, by a major industry player, in a ‘hard-to-abate’ sector could encourage fellow shipping companies as well as other entities within the supply-chain to explore net-zero climate emissions commitments on the lines of Maersk.
