Naval powers in the Indo-Pacific region have been involved in various exercises, the content and number of which are likely to increase. The increase in the number of Carrier Strike Groups in the region and the extent of exercises could be the start of “Sabre Rattling”, which will have a slew of ramifications. Amongst other inputs, Russia has been steadily complementing its large domestic capability with a steady increase in its naval capacity – especially its nuclear-powered submarine fleet. In West Asia, Russia’s emergence as the “peacemaker” in Syria could have a major impact on the balance of power around the Mediterranean region
