Mrs Kale represents a generation that truly loved and still loves the Navy in thought and deed! She has recently chosen to bring her personal Family Pension Account Balance down to ‘Zero’ and has donated the entire amount to the NMF to buttress the Commodore Surendra and Savita Kale (CSSK) Research-Grant, which has been set up, through her generosity, at the National Maritime Foundation to support research/ into India’s maritime heritage and knowledge systems that would help create a true “Maritime India”… one that is not founded upon imported ideas and concepts but draws upon India’s own historical legacy and demonstrates its continued relevance to contemporary and future Indian maritime endeavours and accomplishments. This Grant envisages an one-time annual award of Rs 1,00,000/- ( Rupees One Lakh Only) to any young researcher who is below the age of 35 years on the date of award, and who wishes to write a high-quality book detailing specific aspects of this subject.
