The National Maritime Foundation marked its 21st Foundation Day on 15 February, commemorating over two decades of sustained contribution to strengthening India’s comprehensive maritime power.
Established in 2005 as India’s first dedicated maritime think tank, the National Maritime Foundation was created to address the country’s historical underemphasis on its maritime domain. From its inception, the Foundation has sought to promote independent, policy-relevant research across the full spectrum of maritime issues — extending well beyond traditional conceptions of sea power.
Over the past twenty-one years, the institution has evolved from an early vision of cultivating maritime awareness into a globally respected centre of intellectual engagement. Its work today spans maritime security, ocean governance, naval strategy, Indo-Pacific geopolitics, maritime law, and the blue economy.
As India’s maritime profile continues to expand in the Indo-Pacific and beyond, the National Maritime Foundation remains committed to advancing informed discourse, strategic clarity, and evidence-based policy engagement in support of national and regional maritime interests.
