The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) convened the second meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee for the National Legislation on Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, 2025 at Prithvi Bhawan, New Delhi.
The meeting focused on identifying priority areas for the proposed legislation and deliberating on inputs received from committee members concerning the draft framework. The discussions aimed to strengthen India’s approach to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Commander P K Srivastava, followed by opening remarks from Senior Advocate Shri Sanjay Upadhyay, Chairperson of the Committee. Representatives from the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE), the Indian Coast Guard, the National Maritime Foundation, and the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR) presented their perspectives and actively participated in detailed deliberations.
