
Vice Admiral Gurtej Singh Pabby
Experience: Vice Admiral GS Pabby superannuated from the Indian Navy on 31 Aug 20 after a distinguished career spanning over more than 40 years. His last appointment was ‘Chief of Materiel’ at Naval Headquarters, the apex position for a technical officer in the Indian Navy.
He graduated with BE(Hons) from NIT and went on to do his MTech in Systems and Control Engineering at IIT(Mumbai). He has been bestowed with ‘Distinguished Alumnus’ award by both these institutes.
During his illustrious career, the Admiral has held some of the most prestigious appointments, such as the Chief Staff Officer (Technical) at Western Naval Command, Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam, Director General Project 75, Director General Naval Projects(Mumbai), Controller Warship Production and Acquisition and the Chief of Materiel at Naval Headquarters.
At the strategic guidance and decision making level, he has interacted extensively at the apex level with various professional and regulatory bodies, academia and the Indian Industry. With his special focus on development of indigenous capability, he has been able to give immense impetus to the participation of the Indian industry, particularly the MSMEs, towards construction of equipment for ships and submarines for the Indian Navy. A staunch supporter of the need for modernisation, he has steadfastly encouraged innovation, applied research at the grass root level and quick adaptation/induction of newer technologies.
The Admiral is a recipient of Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishist Seva Medal(AVSM) and the Vishist Seva Medal (VSM) by the President of India.
