About the Speaker
Shri Ravi Singh is the Secretary-General and CEO of WWF-India since 2003. Prior to this, Shri Singh was the General Manager and Head, Multi-National Corporates, Deutsche Bank, based in Mumbai.
Started his career as a lecturer of history at Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University, Mr Singh joined The Chartered Bank (now Standard Chartered Bank) in 1976 and Deutsche Bank in 1985. Aside from his professional achievements in the corporate sector, Shri Singh has had an abiding interest in the conservation of nature and working for India. He has been involved in conservation-related issues since 1976 and has been a member of several conservation organisations, which included WWF and the BNHS. As the head of WWF-India, the country’s largest conservation organisation, Shri Singh participates in national fora covering biodiversity and aspects of reducing human footprint.
He has played squash at national level, is a keen traveller, a member of the Himalayan Club, and an avid reader. His other interests include Indian history, rock-shelter paintings, high altitude trekking, western classical music, photography and natural history. The priority areas of his work as the Secretary General of WWF India are to provide strategic direction to the conservation work of the organisation and to add qualitatively to the WWF India’s contribution to conservation.
In his position as the head of India’s largest conservation organisation, Shri Ravi Singh has participated in several national fora including the Standing Committee of the Indian Board of Wildlife, was a member of the Board of Directors of IIFM, and in Wildlife Boards of various states in India. Shri Singh is a member of the NTCA Board, including the Technical Committee of the NTCA. He was the Vice-President of the Himalayan Club and one of the founder members of the Eco-Tourism Society of India. He Chairs the Living Himalaya Initiative for WWF International. In his capacity at WWF India, he is a member of advisory councils and Boards of the CII and FICCI. As a citizen, he participates on the Board of Save the Children and as an Advisory Board member of the Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation.
