About the Speaker
Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal was commissioned in Bangladesh Navy in June 1983 and is a graduate of the Italian Naval Academy Livorno in 1985. He assumed the duties of Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University since February 2018. Under his Leadership, the University is on the verge of transformation into a Maritime Centre of Excellence with quality maritime education and research. He has retired from the VC’s duty on 31st January 2023.
Admiral Khaled Iqbal is a specialist in Navigation and has undergone a course on Maritime Law from Wollongong University, Australia in 1999. He is a distinguished graduate of the Indian Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and also a proud alumnus of the National Defence College, Delhi, India. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the NMF, India and an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute, UK.
Rear Admiral Khaled has commanded almost all types of warships of the Bangladesh Navy and was the Bangladesh Navy Fleet Commander for more than 02 (two) years when he earned numerous accolades in the modernization of fleet tactics and other operational achievements. He was a Directing Staff in Defence Services Command and Staff College, Bangladesh for more than 03 (three) years and also held the prestigious post of Commandant at Bangladesh Naval Academy. He is a former Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority when he took numerous initiatives for port capacity building and port-led economic developments.
Rear Admiral Khaled holds M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras. While a sea-going Commander by heart, the Admiral has a passion for research works, strategic and military studies.
