About the Speaker

Aki Sakabe-Mori is currently assistant professor of University of Tsukuba, Japan. She also serves adjunct lecturer of the Maritime Staff College of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Forces since 2011 to present. Her research interests include China’s maritime policy, defense policy, maritime disputes in Asia, as well as regional multilateral cooperation. She has been making responsible people in Japan, the ASEAN member countries, and China, to deepen understandings on the development of regional cooperation in the context of the rise of China, since 2012. She joins a research group on China’s security studies at the Nakasone Peace Institute (NPI) since 2019 to present. She is also a member of the research group on “current security risks in the Asia-Oceania region involving China and its maritime interests (FY2023-2025)”, led by Professor Chisako T. Masuo, at the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA).
