About the Speaker

A graduate of the Master in International Relations and Foreign Action (MRIAE) from Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, Alexandra Nicolas is currently doing a doctorate in International Relations. Her thesis focuses on marine biodiversity as a defence issue, analysing shark finning in Costa Rica and São Tomé and Príncipe. The thesis is directed by the political scientist Kévin Parthenay and is under the dual patronage of the University of Tours and the Institute for Strategic Research of the Ecole Militaire (IRSEM – French Ministry of the Armed Forces, as part of the DGRIS’s International Relations and Strategy program).

Drawing on her experience at the Military International Relations Center (EMA PRIM) and at the Center for Doctrine and Command Education (CDEC, French Army), Alexandra Nicolas recently conducted a prospective study for the Army: “The future victories of the Army will be green! From combat ecology to ecological combat”. She is now an associate researcher at the CDEC, in charge of forward-thinking on the strategic impacts of environmental issues.

In this respect, Alexandra Nicolas took part in the first edition of the Mediterranean strategic meetings (RSMed) co-organised by two French think tanks, the FRS and the FMES. These were held in Toulon (France) on September 27 and 28. She intervened as a panellist of the round table “Energy, climate and environment”.
