About the Speaker:

Cdr Prashant Kumar Srivastava is an ex-naval officer who has more than two decades of maritime experience. He has a doctorate from Goa University and is an International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) qualified Cat ‘A’ Hydrographer, who has vast experience in the field of bathymetric surveying and oceanography. He has held important staff and training appointments in the Navy; he was the Chief Instructor at the National Institute of Hydrography, Goa; and the commander of naval research vessels. He has also served as the Hydrographic Chief of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Ministry of Shipping where he was instrumental in conceptualising and successfully executing the innovative and technologically intensive project on “River Information Systems (RIS)” on National Waterways (NW- 1), being the first of its kind in the South Asian region. Presently, he is appointed as an Advisor in the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), New Delhi. His responsibilities include supervision and monitoring of the marine sciences programmes and projects being implemented by the MoES institutions like the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE), the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), as well as the Blue Economy policy and governance, international cooperation, etc.
